Forest Biomass to Energy: Opportunities, Options, and Challenges  ---- With the recent announcement of the closure of the Smurfit Stone Container Corporation pulp plant in Missoula, the topic of utilizing forest biomass on a local scale has once again risen to the top of many discussions. Landowners, business owners, land management agencies, and elected officials are scrambling to find alternative uses for materials that must be removed from our public and private forests to meet multiple land management objectives. This discussion will focus on efforts ongoing right here in the Flathead Valley to utilize forest biomass and reap the very local benefits of healthy forests and healthy communities.

Please join us for an informative evening of information, education and interactive discussion to explore some of the opportunities, options and challenges that surround the utilization of our forest biomass resources. A panel of professionals will discuss just what biomass is, how biomass and green energy in Montana fit into the larger picture, a look at a proposal to build a Combined Heat and Power facility in Columbia Falls and an exciting presentation on emerging technologies that are being tested right here in the Flathead Valley that would produce multiple valuable products from forest biomass.
