Growth Policy
Goals: Pedestrians, Bikes & Cars
- Establish and maintain integrated transportation and
recreational pathways, including bicycle and pedestrian trails,
neighborhood parks, green belts and open space. (Bozeman, 2002)
- An
awareness that roads and highways provide the window through which many
people view the community and therefore road
design and location, signage, and landscape should be coordinated and tempered to provide the
optimum setting for the future of Whitefish. (Whitefish, 2002)
- Encourage
properties to utilize common accesses to encourage frontage road
development where densities or volumes are high and to avoid the
hazards and traffic disruptions of multiple access points along major
public roads. (Flathead County,1994 draft)
- Address noise, air and safety impacts of major transportation facilities on adjacent land uses. (Missoula County, 2002)
- Coordinate
land use and transportation policies to discourage sprawl development,
locate housing near jobs, encourage alternative modes of transportation
and protect neighborhoods from traffic and road impacts. (Whitefish,
2002)
- Development should pay its proportional share of the
cost of improvements to the existing roadway system necessitated to
address the impacts of development. (Lewis and Clark County, 2002)
