Growth Policy
Goals: Natural Resources
& Agriculture
- Support the preservation of agricultural lands and
activities and a viable agricultural community as an important economic
sector in the Gallatin Valley. (Bozeman, 2001)
- Direct
growth to areas served by municipal sewer in order to protect water
quality and avoid the reliance on septic systems. (Whitefish, 2002)
- Discourage
residential development within designated 100-year flood plains and
prohibit development in designated floodways. (Lewis and Clark, County,
2002 Draft)
- Preserve and protect sensitive natural and
wildlife habitats where conflicts with development cannot be mitigated.
(Columbia Falls, current)
- Develop residential and
commercial setback requirements along streams, rivers, lakes, and
reservoirs to preserve natural resources, viewsheds and recreational
uses. (Lewis and Clark County, 2002 Draft)
